The London Edit
Summer, lingering.
You leave the coast behind, unpack the linen shirts and empty the suitcase, yet traces of the holiday remain. A little more colour in your complexion. A slower pace to your stride. The habit of lingering over a morning coffee instead of rushing for the next appointment.
London has always understood this feeling.
By late August, the city softens. Hyde Park fills with people who aren't quite ready to surrender to autumn. Office workers trade boardrooms for park benches at lunchtime. The queue at the ice cream cart is as long as ever. The serpentine catches the afternoon light, and for a moment, the city forgets that September is around the corner.
There is something quietly satisfying about returning after time away. The familiar streets feel new again. The terraces of Kensington, the side streets of Mayfair, the cafe's tucked between galleries and bookshops. Everything is exactly where you left is, only now you notice it with fresh eyes.
This is the season of easy layers and dependable favourites.
An Oxford shirt beneath a rugby knit on cool mornings. A lightweight overshirt carried over the shoulders until the sun begins to fade. Crisp chinos that work as well for a meeting in St James's as they do for an afternoon wandering through Notting Hill without a much of a plan. This i not quite summer, and not quite.
The city is calling. Dress for the season in between.
